GARDEN STATE EQUALITY IS HONORED TO PRESENT THE NEW JERSEY PREMIERE OF
THE FILM "FREEHELD: THE LAUREL HESTER STORY." Wednesday, May 30, 2007
at 7:00 pm, George Street Playhouse, 9 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick.
"Freeheld: The Laurel Hester Story," chronicling a dying woman's
simultaneous struggle for life and for justice for New Jersey's LGBTI
community -- the story that swept our entire state -- just won the 2007
Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Immediately following the 40-minute film, there will be a panel
discussion with Congressman Frank Pallone; "Freeheld" director Cynthia
Wade; Dane Wells, Lt. Hester's closest friend and fellow police
officer; Robin Kinlin of Ocean County Democracy for America; Steven
Goldstein of Garden State Equality; and the "next Lt. Laurel Hesters"
-- LGBTI families denied benefits today because the civil unions law
isn't working to provide equality as marriage would. Moderated by Ann
Northrop, cohost of the weekly television program "Gay USA."
Then followed by a reception honoring director Cynthia Wade.
The entire evening is free, no tickets or RSVP required.
