New Jersey for Democracy Monthly Top Ten for August 2005
1) DFA Training Academy is set for August 20-21 on the Rutgers campus in New Brunswick! New Jersey is one of only two states with governor's races this year, and the Republicans are pouring money into our state and sending their star players, like Rove and Cheney. They want a red Garden State in 2005 and beyond, and we need to be prepared for a fight. Learn how to fight and win from nationally-recognized instructors, with great materials, and some exciting surprise guests. You can get details and register here right now! (If you can help with logistics, please contact Rosi
2) DFA-Link has launched - a new tool to replace Meetup.com, and connect the DFA community nationwide - please register and setup your local group ASAP! Hurry! - DFA will no longer be paying Meetup.com's monthly fee, so the faster you register and let your members know, the better! Questions? Ask Bob!
3) DFA-Corzine Connection House Party Weekend is September 17-18! We're aiming for 30 parties statewide - can we do it? If you can host a house party, or if you have questions, please contact Jeff. 4) As reported in the August 7th New York Times New Jersey section and an August 8th Star Ledger Op-Ed piece - Thank you and congrats to the Essex County Voting Rights Task Force getting the message out about new voting equipment - we can do better! Find out how - contact Katherine. 5) Congressional meetings over the Downing Street Memo - are you meeting with your Congressman? For details, contact Mitch. 6) Your local DFA+ Endorsements matter! (Hint -- check your email this week!) 7) Labor day is coming - and with it, full-scale campaign mode. Contact your local candidates and get involved - and let them know DFA sent you! (Better yet - let them know DFA trained you!) 8) Wondering what other NJ4D folks have been doing lately? Plenty! Click to find out more: - Hudson County DFA met with newly-elected Jersey City Councilman Steven Fulop, and leaders of the Coalition to Preserve the Embankment , community activists working to protect this local treasure from development.
- Cape May-Atlantic DFA created CPR - Citizens for Progressive Representation - with a mission to "bring truth to politics, remove targeted incumbents from office, and elect fiscally responsible and socially progressive candidates."
- Northwest NJ for Democracy staffed the booths at the Warren and Sussex County Fairs, putting a smiling message of blue in red New Jersey.
- Hunterdon DFA rocked at the Black Potatoe Music Festival - a four-day music festival held at the historic Red Mill in Clinton, handing out literature, registering people to vote and signing up new DFA members. They also constructed a Wheel of Democracy game, where visitors guessed the answers to political trivia!
Hope you are getting by in the heat. See you at the Training! - Jeff, Rosi, Mitch, Katherine and Bob
